Drama Department set to perform “Third”

“Third,” a vivacious and humorous play by Pulitzer Prize winner Wendy Wasserstein, will perform six showings at TWU’s Denton campus Redbud Theater Nov. 18-22.

Set at a prestigious United States university, the play centers around a professor’s life that is turned upside down when she accuses a student of plagiarism. The professor’s life becomes even more harried when family and friends become less reliable as their lives also change.

In a recent interview with The Lasso, Junior Drama Major Nolan Chapa  shares: “There are so many thing in the show that are relevant today. So many things still reign true about illness, life and judgment. This play is important for keeping open your perception to new viewpoints and to new people – that’s a powerful thing theater can make people do.”

With a small cast of skilled and convincing actors, audience members will plunge into a world similar to their own and follow Professor Jameson through tough times in her life, discussing serious matters accompanied by wry, witty humor, lending the production a lighthearted air. Audience members can prepare for another jovial, thought-provoking performance by TWU actors. 

Junior Drama major Riley Jopayne explains: “The play’s themes and what it teaches are something everyone should learn about – openness and prejudice. I think that’s something the play tries to get across.”
