Be legally informed: campus resources available for students

Legal problems can quickly add up and leave you at a loss both mentally and financially. According to lawyers.com, attorneys can charge anywhere from $100 to $400 per hour. TWU offers students free legal services on campus. If TWU Student Life Legal Services cannot assist you directly, they will refer you to someone who may be able to help.

Free legal services for students at TWU

According to the website, Student Life Legal Services offer currently-enrolled students free consultations, legal documents and referral information upon request. The documents available include: Wills (with or without a trust), Directives to Physicians, Durable, Medical, Special and General Powers of Attorney. Student Life Legal Services also offer legal advice regarding the following topics: Landlord/ Tenant Rights, Criminal Charges, Family/Divorce Issues, Immigration Matters, Contracts, Consumer Law, Employment Law and Probate. Appointments are required to receive any of these documents or advice. To make an appointment, visit the Office & Community Standards located in Jones Hall or call (940) 898- 2968. For students at the Dallas and Houston campuses, contact the Student Life Representative on campus by phone. All legal services are currently being held in person at the Denton campus only.

Before making an appointment, students must fill out the Appointment Request Form/ Information Sheet and return it to the office.

Opportunity for Dallas students

Dallas students will have the opportunity to get on campus information on Tuesday, Feb. 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., in room 3600. Appointments are recommended, but walk-ins are welcome. To save a time slot, contact the Dallas Student Life at StudentLifeDallas@twu.edu. If disability accommodations are needed, call (940) 898-3835.
